Free Fishing Lessons

I ran across this site the other day and thought I'd share.
Dan Jennings is looking to fish everywhere he can get to in the Western United States, traveling by RV!
He states this journey will be "for an extended and undetermined length of time."

Man, I wish I could to that!
Your "Livin the Dream" Dan!

Here's Dan's website.  I plan on following along and wishing him well along the way.

2nd Annual Frostbite Salmon Shootout Heating UP

Things are beginning to fall into place for the 2nd annual Frostbite Salmon Shootout to be held again this November on Lake Champlain.

This year's event promises to be even better, much simpler...and sometimes in this crazy complicated world...
simpler is better!!!
More on the 2nd event later...but for now, a video of last years event has been put together by fellow fisherman Mike S.
Thanks for the great job on the vid Mike, love it!

Product Review..."Chelada"

Failed...
too much Clamato, lime, and salt.
I suppose I could live with that much Clamato but...
it's like drinking fizzy Clamato.

I bought a 24 ouncer and drank it all.
But really, I couldn't wait until it was "over".

Make mine a Miller Lite!

VERMONT STATE RECORD: LANDLOCKED SALMON

Vermont's Landlocked Salmon Record.  12 Pounds, 10.4 ounces.
Taken by Brian Latulippe on October18, 1994.
Lake Champlain
What a beautiful Lake Champlain Landlocked Atlantic Salmon!
The above picture was taken of Brian and his fish at Ron's Bait Shop in Colchester, the day of the catch.  Ron's has since closed it's doors.
Brian caught this beautiful fish while perch fishing at the sand-bar bridge on Lake Champlain.  An area known to have big salmon prowling at certain times.

Below, is a more recent picture of the trophy fish mount.  This is the angler's son, Brian Latulippe Jr, proudly showing off the Vermont record his father caught.

Will the record ever be broken?  With the addition of alewife's for forage and increased sea lamprey control, it might get broken...someday.

Brian doesn't hope that it will, and rightly so!
It's a family treasure.  A treasure they can always be proud of.

I JUST WANT TO FISH

Twenty weeks.
Twenty weeks of pure bliss.
Bliss and fish that is.
Twenty weeks ago I was laid off.   Not a victim of the economy and lack of work mind you, but rather a beneficiary.

That has now come to an end.  Tomorrow I start a new job.
Our society mandates it.
Our society requires it.
I got a taste of retirement.
I can't retire just yet...but someday, someday.

I fished my butt off and had a blast.
I met some new friends and had a chance to fish and share with them.
I fished more in the last twenty weeks than I've ever been able to in my entire life.
I loved every minute of it.
I caught big fish...
I caught little fish...
and fish in between,
the good eaters.

If this new job doesn't work out for me...
then I think I'll just stick to fishin'!

WORKING MAN
I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin'
Yes, I'm workin' all the time
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that's why they call me
They call me the working man
They call me the working man
I guess that's what I am
I get home at five o'clock
And I take myself out a nice, cold beer
Always seem to be wonderin'
Why there's nothin' goin' down here
Well, they call me the working man
I guess that's what I am

Tight lines.
I just want to fish!
Wish me luck.

AND YET ANOTHER LAKE TROUT BENCH-MARK!

Holy Crap!
Not again.
It's been just over a week and another Lake Champlain Lake Trout Record has been set.
This is like, three times this year.
A twenty pounder is just around the corner!

I'm told this fish was weighed on certified scales at 18.96 pounds, is 34-3/4 inches long, and has a 23-1/2 inch girth.
The fish was caught aboard Cloud Nine Charters, piloted by Captain Obe White.
Congratulations to the angler and of course, Captain Obe and his crew!
I'm hoping for a video...

Yup, a twenty pound Lake Trout is in Lake Champlain...
It's just a matter of it not being camera shy!

Hopefully we'll soon see the record broken for Landlocked Atlantic Salmon.  And what better angler than I to do it?
Well...wishful thinking anyway!

MORE "DORKFISH"

Back in June I published a post about Sanman catching and boating a "Dorkfish".  Sanman gave the fish it's name, and did so appropriately.  Since then he has managed to catch another Lake Champlain Landlocked Atlantic Salmon "Dorkfish".

Wednesday, I was able to do the same.
This particular fish didn't have it's tongue sticking out the center of it's throat as Sanman's did, but rather off to the side.
Very Peculiar.

As was Sanman's fish, this fish didn't appear to have been affected by its abnormality.  It was a beautiful fish, healthy, hard fighting, 23 inches long with a big alewife in its belly.  It had been eating well.

After showing these pictures to another fisherman, Matt, he said he also caught one this summer, but failed to get any pictures.  He harvested his also.

I'll get a few pictures off to a Vermont Fish and Game biologist and see what they have to say.  My thoughts are that these fish are victims of previous catch and release, with injuries to show for it!

REELAX

Yesterday Matt and I ventured out onto Lake Champlain aboard his boat "REELAX".  What a terrific name for a boat, as there is no better way to reelax, than to chase Landlocked Atlantic Salmon on Lake Champlain.
We didn't get into a lot of fish, but we did do a lot of reelaxin'!  We dropped a couple nice fish behind the boat, evidence they were "short striking" at our offerings.

Matt did however, manage to boat this nice 22 inch silver.  It hit on a Honeybee KopKar by Tamiron Sporting Goods.

I wasn't able to put a decent Salmon in the net, but did manage a small 5 pound Lake Trout on my light Salmon rod!

ANOTHER BIG LAKE TROUT FROM LAKE CHAMPLAIN

Rumor has it, another Lake Trout Record has been made for Lake Champlain!
I expect we'll keep seeing records being broken, possibly several times a year with this world class fishery improving daily!
This is an impressive fish for Lake Champlain.  Weighted on certified scales, the fish weighed 17.95 pounds, it was 34.75 inches long, and had a girth of 22 inches!

The fish was caught by Laurie Lang while fishing aboard Sure Strike Charters with Captain Rich Greenough.  Visit the Sure Strike Charters website at http://www.fishvermont.com/

Congratulations Laurie!
